Fix the Coorparoo Level Crossing

This is a massive traffic snarl, and it's dangerous.

This level crossing is dangerous; it causes massive traffic congestion across the Southside and it has to go.

For too long, Southside residents in Griffith have missed out on funding for important infrastructure like this. Queensland is getting less and less in federal infrastructure funding from the Morrison Government.

More time on the road, means less time with your family and Southside families deserve action.

"We need to fix this dangerous traffic nightmare for our community."

The Morrison Government announced an urban congestion fund in the 2018 Budget that now has $4.8 billion in it, but less than $340 million has been spent, and 87% of announced funds in Queensland have been committed to Coalition-held seats.

I have been running a campaign to remove Cavendish Road level crossing at Coorparoo station since I was first elected in 2014.

The RACQ identified the Coorparoo level crossing as being in its top three priorities for level crossing removal in 2020 and this new report identifies 61 “near misses” at the crossing over the last decade.

I won’t stop fighting for this project until it is funded and finished. Traffic congestion is getting worse on the Southside, and we know how dangerous these sites are if action isn’t taken.

Coorparoo Level Crossing Petition

We the undersigned, call upon the Morrison Government to fix the Coorparoo Level Crossing. It's a dangerous safety hazard that causes traffic congestion right across the Southside.

At the 2019 election I secured A $107 million commitment from Federal Labor to fix the crossing. Unfortunately, Scott Morrison retained government and let the Southside down yet again, by ignoring our infrastructure needs and failing to commit to fix the Coorparoo Level Crossing.

Joe Kelly MP, the Labor State Member for Greenslopes, and Labor Council Candidate Matt Campbell have been fighting alongside Anthony Albanese and I for many years on this issue.

Recently Labor Leader Anthony Albanese came to Griffith to campaign at the crossing for action from the Morrison Government.

Labor was the only party to put a serious commitment on the table at the previous federal election.

Morrison Government inaction on Traffic Congestion

I have lobbied the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development for the project. After numerous letters, I received a response from the Minister.
