Many members of our Southside community have reached out over the last few months with concerns about their financial situation. The pandemic has put pressure on many local families with jobs losses, health and welfare concerns.
If you are experiencing financial difficulties and need advice, the National Debt Helpline (NDH) is here to help.
The NDH is a not-for-profit service that helps Australians tackle their debt problems. It is coordinated by Financial Counselling Australia, and provides free, independent and confidential advice to people who are experiencing financial stress.
A financial counsellor can you help by:
- Assessing your financial situation
- Providing advice on how to negotiate with your creditors, government agencies and utilities
- Providing advice on your options and rights
- Referral to other services when needed, such as emergency relief, legal and health services
NDH has added a COVID-19 Financial Survival Guide with steps to help people take care of themselves and their families financially during and after the pandemic.
