LABOR COMMITS $600M TO REBUILD PARADISE DAM

09 March 2022

An Albanese Labor Government will contribute $600m to fix Paradise Dam.

This $600 million commitment will see the dam returned to its full 300,000 megalitre capacity.

The Project will cost up to $1.2 billion, with the Queensland State Government also delivering $600 million in funding.

Labor knows how important this project is for the people of the Bundaberg and Northern Burnett Region. Fixing Paradise Dam will deliver water security for the people and farmers in the Bundaberg Region.

Senator Anthony Chisholm said that this is an important project after the Morrison-Joyce Government’s near decade of failure to deliver crucial water infrastructure.

The Morrison Government has so far delivered just one of the 100 dams it promised to build.

“This is just another example of the Morrison-Joyce Government being all talk, no delivery. In the past decade they’ve built one per cent of the dams they said they would.”

“They are all about the photo-opp, you can’t trust them to deliver. Federal Labor will just get in and get the job done.”

Labor Candidate for Hinkler Jason Scanes said “Rebuilding the dam will create around 250 local construction jobs and will support scores of local businesses and farms once complete.”

“Labor knows how important this project is for families and local farmers across our region.”

Labor Candidate for Flynn Matt Burnett said “I want to create more jobs in more industries for our region and this investment, that I've fought hard to secure, is proof of that commitment.

“I'm backing local jobs like those in coal mines, on the railways, in new energy generation and transmission, and through the many jobs in agriculture and food manufacturing that Paradise Dam supports.”
