MORRISON-JOYCE GOVERNMENT’S URANNAH DAM PROPOSAL IS JUST ANOTHER EMPTY PROMISE

By Terri Butler MP

17 March 2022

Today’s announcement from the Morrison-Joyce Government about the proposed Urannah Dam is just another empty promise.

Before they were elected, this Government claimed they would build 100 dams. In their near decade in government, they have opened only one small, new dam.

The Morrison-Joyce Government is already backing away from this announcement in record time. Minister Sussan Ley was on radio this morning pouring cold water on this project before a lot of people had even had breakfast.

Ms Ley made clear there would be a lot of work yet to come before this project could even be considered for approval. She was also not willing to guarantee this project would represent value for money for taxpayers.

Central Queensland MP George Christensen has also put a question mark over this announcement, making clear that much more funding would need to be secured before it could go ahead.

As always with the Morrison-Joyce Government, it’s all about the announcement, but not about the delivery.

Australians won’t be taken for mugs.

Queenslanders deserve real, secure jobs, not just more empty promises from the Morrison-Joyce Government.
