An Albanese Labor Government will help redevelop the Spartans’ basketball facilities at the Clem Jones Centre, with a focus on improving disability access, including for sporting wheelies.

Federal Labor is committing $750,000 towards much-needed upgrades to the courts, to assist the many wheelchair athletes at the club. Funding will help provide wheelchair-friendly elevators to improve athlete access to the court, as well as making the entry and canteen more accessible.

Southern District Basketball Club has more than 3,000 registered members and is the preferred club for wheelchair basketball games and training.

Improving the accessibility of sporting facilities like the Clem Jones Centre only enriches the sport and the community that use the facilities.

Federal Labor supports the development of clubs to make sport more accessible.

Comments attributable to Terri Butler, Member for Griffith:

“I am so pleased to be able to fund these important improvements to the Spartans’ facilities.

It is important that we make these facilities more accessible to accommodate the growing number of wheelchair athletes that train and play here.

I am proud of this commitment and am so grateful to be part of the Spartans community.”
