The Greens' South Brisbane branch secretary posted on her personal Twitter account a news article quoting the electorate's Labor MP Jackie Trad, adding, "This party is the nastiest skank bitch I've ever met. DO NOT TRUST THEM. they are a fugly slut!!!!!” to the tweet.

To add insult to injury, instead of apologising, a former Greens party federal candidate has defended the comments on the basis they are a "popular culture" reference.

The comments themselves are highly sexist and gross.

The attempt to justify the comments on the basis that they are from popular culture is pathetic.

It's not OK to level sexist and gross abuse at a woman just because you're quoting from a movie.

Even if these two officials don't understand that, Adam Bandt should.

As an office holder and a former federal candidate these two people are representatives of the party Mr Bandt leads. He should pull them into line.
