He has been the Queensland coordinator of Charity Australia for almost a decade. He was the President of the Islamic Society of Holland Park and continues to be a spokesperson for it. He was a member of the Queensland government's Multicultural Advisory Council for three years, and has been the public relations person for the Islamic Council of Queensland for half a decade. Ali has held interfaith Iftar dinners at the community centre, engaged with other religions, and has appeared on TV including in The Mosque Next Door and You Can't Ask That. His work helps build community understanding and cohesion.
